
My academic book THE MYSTERIOUS AND THE OCCULT FROM NEWTON TO THE VICTORIANS: STRANGE POWERS was published by Palgrave Pivot in November 2024.

My latest article WALKING WITH ZARATHUSTRA: HOW TO FIND NIETZSCHE HELPFUL is published in the CEA CAPA Journal, Fall 2025.
For CEA CAPA I teach the courses WITCHCRAFT AND MAGICAL PERFORMANCE; BRITISH THEATRE: A HISTORY; THEATRE AND JUSTICE (with Synergy Theatre Project); THEATRICALITY and WRITING A PLAY IN LONDON. In spring 2025 I won the TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD for my London classes.
I taught the Playwriting course at Royal Holloway University of London for 10 years, from 2004-’14, winning the Apple For Teacher award. A number of my students have gone on to have work produced or to make their careers in the Education or Literary departments of leading theatres.
I have mentored MA students at Central School of Speech and Drama in London and taught classes in theatre for students from Colgate University, New York and the University of Minnesota. I have advised the UK’s National Theatre on Classics for the Young, as well as contributing to Contemporary Theatre Review. Since 2021, I have managed the University of Minnesota’s partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
I have a First Class degree in English and Theatre Studies from the University of Warwick, an MA in Renaissance Literature and Drama from the University of Sussex and a PhD in Victorian Theatre, specializing in The Magical Body on the Stage, from the University of London. I have a PGCE in Post-16 Education from the University of Brighton.
